M band brakes

I have an M with band brakes. I took the cover off and it looks like a new band. I tried to adjust the brake according to the book and can't get it to adjust like the other one. It works some but is still spongy. I have too much pedal travel. I really need it to work like the other one. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks

I don't understand the pedal clearance for the "new" band, if it fits right (some don't) you should be able to reduce the clearance. However the ones that don't fit are usually too tight and can't be loosened. The spongy feeling could be oil on the band.

Some aftermarket bands were too long. The only fix is to cut them off and reweld them. If you go that far, you should weld around the rolled over tab that forms the eye. The three spot welds will tear out.

The last set I bought, I bought from THIS site... and unfortunately, they were junk. They squealed everytime, and after about a year, (less than 4 actual hours on the tractor) the pads began to separate from the band... as expected, despite the low hours, no warranty or even credit. The drums were in excellent shape and I had installed new seals before putting in the brakes.. no oil issues, just JUNK product.
