Can anyone explain to me how the M&W hand clutch on an M is used/operated and what its intended use is for? Can it over ride the foot clutch/ be used instead of the foot clutch? How do you check for proper operation? I have one on the M and frankly I'm afraid to pull or push that lever, I don't want to break anything. Thanks guys, ~Anthony

The MW handclutch is used to provide 'live'pto on your M.It is not to be used to "override/instead of the foot clutck.Go ahead and try it.It is an over-center type,it 'snaps' in and out.It can be adjusted if it slips.Just remove the side cover. You will find a notched'nut' that is held by a steel keeper.Turn one notch to tighten.Got one on aSuper M,works great for baleing...

The M&W hand clutch allowed you to disengage the left side final drive, thus stopping forward motion of the tractor without interrupting power to the PTO. This was the cat's meow for baling, combining or running a cornpicker where the tractor could be stopped without stopping the PTO and thus allowing the PTO driven implement to 'catch up'. You still need to use the foot clutch to change gears. The M&W clutch manual says the clutch should be adjusted so that it takes about 30 lbs. of pressure to push the handle forward to engage the clutch.
