Sad Day for the Super M's - Grandpa nearly showed them up

LOL, participated in the antique tractor pull at Saegertown Pioneer Steam and Gas show yesterday. The F30 HAN weighed in at 5020 with me on it, so had to pull in the 5500 class (couldn't get the belt pulley off in time). There was a D16, 2 SM's, and a 300 in my class.

Well, I stayed with all of them, like 10 feet +/-. I spun out just as the governor kicked in. While 10' ain't nuthin' to brag about normally, the old girl stayed with the "new" kids. With another 300-400 lbs, who knows, I might have out-pulled them. I am NOT an experienced puller, so tires were fully inflated, drawbar was 6" too low, pulled in 1rst, etc.etc and I still was right there.

Needless to say, big smiles for this pulling rookie ( and will always be a rookie). Gotta love the old iron with the long stroke.

Congratulations! My F30 does similarly. Never wins but close. Like you, I'm stuck with 5500 and up (if I want to) since mine is a nonadjustable wide and I'll never shed enough weight to go in any lower weight class.

I think with diet and exercise you should be able to pull in 5000 next year. :)

Those F series are really light in the rear. I would think traction would always be a problem.

True story. Thought about running to the bathroom first, but don't think that would be 20 lbs worth! Yes, me losing 20 lbs would solve the issue, but wouldn't hurt to do 30 lbs just to be safe! LOL.

The next show this week doesn't do 500 lb increments, so, I have the choice of 4500 or 5500, and there ain't no way I am gonna shed 400 lbs of iron off the old girl. Heisler road gear and pulley MIGHT weigh 100lbs total, and it ain't worth it to slide the engine forward to remove the road gear (which I dont' want to do anyway). So, I am thinking about adding the F&H weights to get a bit more traction.

Like I said, I am a rookie, and plan to stay that way, as pulling is fun to me, an NOT a competition. I would be lying though, if I said I wouldn't like to get the old girl into luggin' mode, and give the younger tractors a real run for the money.

something about a 70+ year old tractor making the younger ones "sweat", makes me smile

What size tire do you run? With a 13.6 I wouldn't run more than 12 and know some run half that. Those guys are always too low on air, but think they are doing the right thing.

How much fuel did you have in it? Gasoline is about 7 lbs. a gallon. When I pull my Super C, I go to the pull with only a couple of gallons in the tank. Always take a 5 gallon jug with me because not all scales are the same and it is a good way to add fast weight. This is my 3rd year and you learn real fast!

Tom, did they pull all weights both days ? I used to pull there but Tuffy said it was to much work pulling all wt. classes both days. Only let you pull once all weekend. Sounds like you "DID GOOD"

Well, the rears are 13.6 x 28, brand new.

I usually run 2-3 gallons in it, I would be hard pressed to use a full tank all summer long.

Yes, they ran all classes, both Sat and Sun. 2500 - 25000. Sat they started with the 2500 class and went up. Sun, they started at the 25000 and went down. I had to leave Sat evening, so wasn't there for the Sunday pull.

I haven't been there in years, but my friend got kicked out with his 560 pulling exhibition. When they dropped the hook on him the guy told him to kick it up a gear of he wanted, and they told him not to come back because he did. This after he was still slower than the Oilallover with the Gm diesel.
