reassembling the upper front bolster on an H

I completely disassembled the upper front bolster on my 1941 H a few months back and now it is time to put it all back together. Is there anything that I have to watch for when I do put everything back where it belongs. I do have a new thrust bearing as mine was rusted tight and a new seal to install that goes under the steering gear box. I have heard that there is a trick or something to putting in that seal as to not wreck it upon installation. Brad

You might be able to go to your friendly CNH dealer and ask to borrow the seal puller; it pulls the seal in from the bottom. Find the oldest guy and ask him.
No? I made up my own seal puller, of a few sizes of sockets, some all-thread, duct tape, washers, and whatever. You center the seal in theh ole, and pull straight up, with the U-side up so it fills up with grease. The seal has to center in the hole, and pull straight up. I did three; destroyed the first, bent the second, and bingo on the third.
For grease I blended up a mix of red wheel bearing grease and 90W in a coffee can, with a coat hanger in my drill. Best ofl uck.

I made an insertion tool from a short piece of wood dowel. Turn the dowel OD to just a bit smaller than the seal OD, then turn 1/4" off one end to match the seal ID.

Set the seal on the end of the dowel with the elastomer side facing UP and lightly tap it into place.
