I have a 656 that have have recently bought and there is no down pressure to the 3 point hitch. The draft control also is not working. When pulled back on it does not stay in place and it feels as though something is unhooked. Also, when pulled back, the three point lever does not work properly and the 3 point will not go up and down normally. When the draft control is left in the forward position, the 3 point goes up and down, but still do down pressure. Any thoughts would be great.
 
I don't believe there should be down pressure on the 3pt only on fasthitchs. Not sure on the draft control. If there is a access plate under the seat like my 504 you can take it off and make sure the lever inside is moving right.
 
The 3 point is NOT supposed to have "down pressure".The draft lever is supposed to be 'stiff'.Set it in the middle.The position(up/down) control Has a friction disk to hold the lever in position.It is worn,a little tightening will help.
 
Put the draft control lever all the way forward off and leave it unless you are intending to use it on a implement that is mounted and penetrates the soil like a moldboard plow. The operators manual gives a real good discussion of how to use the draft control but it doesn't really tell you it is nothing more than a cheater to decrease the load by raising the implement when the going gets tough like all draft controls work. There are some places like very uneven ground where it will actually maintain a more even depth than you can get with position control alone but they are rare.
Also, the hitch has a single action cyl so no down pressure which is the way all modern 3 pt hitch's are. The old two point did have down pressure on the older tractors because they used a double action cylinder.
