3 point hitch or fast hitch

I'm looking for suggestions for a hitch for a 1961 farmall 140. it had a fast hitch on it but original owner sold it and I don't have any implements and I have a few 3 point implements. so my question is which should I get 3 point or fast hitch?

There is a few options for you. A new 3 point hitch would be nice because of the two cylinder set-up. I think the fast hitch would be cheaper (if you can find one) and can be adapted into a 3 point hitch with the addition of a top link and a adapter set which allows you to hook up cat 1/2 implements (you can find them on ebay). I guess it comes down to price/availability/use. I personally like the idea of keeping it original but going new w/2 cylinders is nice as well...~Anthony

$600 for a fast hitch sounds high to me but I guess it comes down to condition and what you get? Does it have the 3 point adapters because they go $50-$150 (barn find or ebay) used to $300 new, does the cylinder leak? In my opinion, $400-$450 for a working fast hitch w/adapters and top link is a good deal, add your own hoses and get make her work! Without the adapters I wouldn't pay more than $250-$300 for a working fast hitch and I would want to see it work. I'm sure there are more on this site that know more than me about these but this is what I have learned over the years. ~Anthony

never seen a 3pt. for 140 with cylinders. Most I've seen work off of the top rockerbar that is already on tractor. The lift arms attach to tractor where the drawbar/cultivatos attach..Worksaver use to make a unit that worked well.

I love my FH on the 300U. It is a rare day when I cannot slide my blade on and drive away without hardly breaking a sweat. Comes off just as easy. When it comes to adapting 3 pt to FH using the tong type adapters it gets a little more challenging depending on the implement. I still seem to get along OK with it. I vote for the fast hitch, but that one you are looking at is a lot too pricey.

$600 for a COMPLETE fast hitch for a 140 actually isn't bad. They're not that easy to find off a tractor.

Keep in mind the fast hitch for a 140 is a ONE POINT system. It's not like the larger tractors where you can easily adapt 3pt implements by plugging simple adapter arms into the fast hitch.

Implements for the 1pt system can be expensive and tough to find.

That said, the 3pt hitches you can get for the 140 aren't all that great either.

thanks all for replies I think I mite go with the fast hitch for now and down the road might get a 3 point for it also. I really like the fast hitch on my 300rc to its nice to just back up and go!

I apologize, I thought the one point hitch came on cubs...If you can get a fast hitch it looks like this will convert it to 3 point...

As a user not a collector I wouldn't give 2 cents for the fast hitch unless the 3 point conversion came with it, implements are too hard to find or too expensive. That fast hitch did more to hurt IH than what most people know. Lot of guys switch brands because of it. Most farmers in that day were too independent to have any company tell them what brand implements to buy. I knew several farmers who had adapters to use 3 point but I never knew a farmer who had the fast hitch who had the IH implements to go with it. The Eagle hitch and snap coupler systems hurt AC and Case too.

+1 on the 300rc with fast hitch.
I do agree.... all the people I have seen selling any kind of FH equipment are very proud of them.
It takes a bit of ingenuity to "fabricate" or adapt implements to utilize the fast hitch points, I have had good luck utilizing a tool bar with fast hitch points for planters & rear cultivators, sprayer, & seeder, but even with a two to three point adapter, or a tool bar, they are way out there & front end weight is a must.
Given the availability of pull type equipment for some jobs, prices are much more reasonable, either way, you can find something that will usually work.
3 point stuff is readily available, getting it set up to do a good job in any kind of situation takes a lot of patience and experience.
