Passing comment about F-series tractors

It shouldn't surprise some of you, but I thought I would post this as a passing comment.

I am at the Pioneer gas and steam show in Saegerstown, Pa. With the F-30. I put brand new Autolite 3077's in, had the K5 carb professionally rebuilt, installed an F4 mag I had Nebraska Kirk redo for me. Set the timing right on the specs. Valve lash is dead on.

Starts, every time, 1/4 turn on the crank. NO effort what-so-ever.

My point for this? Any F-series tractor with the fuel delivery and ignition system set right, starts EASY! Period. So, as a comment to the new folks, and those who come here with starting trouble:

Take your time, do it right, and these old girls start like a dream. Commentary over.............

Good comment - I've always felt the same about the letter series - if it takes much effort then something's not right.

Just the other day I was getting my F-30 ready for a show this weekend. Put some gas and water in and thought what the heck I'll pull the crank and see what happens. First quarter turn and it sat there running happily, didn't even have to choke it. Made me feel good especially since it hadn't been started since last fall. BT

Tom F.,

My husband says the same thing.

His F20 usually starts with two slow, upward pulls of the crank (with hand UNDER the crank handle and thumb out of the way).

He never pushes it downward, nor spins it 'round and 'round. I think he actually disengages the crank handle when he moves it downward.

Starts like a dream? Not if you have to get off it and crank it by hand!

My old M starts pretty darn easy with the hand crank. I check is every so often, just so I can more enjoy the electric start!

My buddy has a couple F series tractors...they start extremely easily...I just won't bother with a tractor that doesn't have an electric start!
