Farmall B shifter issue

My B lost the ability to go into neutral or reverse. I tried unjamming the shifter when first moving forward but nothing seemed to work. I undid the bolts and lifted the shifter and forks out. The gears moved and turned freely but the shifter still will not change gears. Do I take the forks off the shifter now? I am not sure I am even calling these parts by the right names as I am just learning my around a tractor. Any help for a newbie is welcome!

The shifter moves side to side in a slot that is formed by the shift rails. This slot is neutral.
The rails need to be moved so that they line up.
then the gears need to be set so they are placed where the forks are (this will also be neutral.
The shifter lever probably needs its pivot repaired and maybe the ball tip remade to be round as it was when new. The pivot system may need new parts. Jim
