IH Wheel Weights

Could someone tell me what the diameter and length (not including the head) of the original square head bolts are that were used to attach wheel weights to an H or M? Also what was the “proper" way of bolting together additional sets of weights? Thanks in advance.

I couldn't find any of those bolts at the time when I put my set on. I just took 3/4" (I believe?) threaded rod and used washers and nuts on both sides. With this you can add more sets as needed.

this is out of my super mta owners manual my bolts are 3 3/4

3/4" diameter, hex head bolts will work just fine. My book shows 4 3/4" for the first set, and 3 3/4" for the second set, but you will not find that length at your local hardware store, you will need to visit a farm machinery dealer. If you are installing 2 sets of weights, both sets are to be installed using the same 4 bolts.

You might find 4" and 5" bolts at the hardware store, but the shank (unthreaded part) will be too long.

Yes, you can go to the Case-IH website, but good luck in finding where to go after that. It changes everytime I try to use it. Best bet is to purchase an operators manual for your tractor.

Pilot Knob Restorations, Galena, IL, 815-777-0826. 3/4"X5", square, dot head cadmium plated, $4.25 each plus shipping. 8 with heavy nuts cost me about $60 delivered by UPS. Too much, yup, but that's what I wanted.

Even cheaper than Fastenal...there are some good things about the price.

You just have to be smarter than the internets. I doubt it will change much after this version since it is proprietary. The old version was ran by an outside company.

Yes I looked at Fastenal, the ones they have were not plated and were $8 or so if I remember right.

Assuming you want to do it the "correct" way, with square-headed bolts:

How do you hold up 300lbs of iron, push the bolt through, and thread on a nut without a forklift or three NFL linebackers?

Doesn't the first set of weights use the four holes near the center of the weight, and the second set use the holes around the outside of the weight?

Correct, so you mount the first weight up with the four bolts then the second set will slide in from the outside. Then you mount the second set.
