Just spent a few hours figuring out the wiring on my 706 Diesel. fender lights were not wired up and i added a flashing light to it. Problem is on the light switch it had 4 positions. first one is off second the light come on but are very very dim and flasher is on, third the lights come on and are nice and bright and flasher is on, last position the fender lights stay on and are still bright and flasher goes out. no rear lights yet but i can't figure out why they are so dim on the second position?

Because they are supposed to be. Second position is DIM LIGHTS. Third position is bright with red rear light and/or flashing lights. Fourth position is bright front lights and rear white work light.

Like tractorman says, they are supposed to be dim.
Just figure out your rear work light and your done.

Sounds like you are saying fender lights come on with head lights and flasher. That is not correct. You should have off, then dim head lights, red tail, flasher next position, bright head lights red tail, flasher, next position, bright head lights, fender lights and white tail light. If your fender lights are on in first position along with head lights that is why they are so dim, too many lights for dimmer resistor. The fender lights were always hooked into the four hole connector.

thank you pete I think that's just what Ive done I think. only thing is the fender lights are the only lights that are on it. guess i'm not sure what you mean by headlights to me those are in front but mine have none, so do headlights mean the lights in the front of the fender? think i know what i did wrong.

on the wiring diagram for the 706 from external_link it refers at the bottom of the pages to page 48 and page 48 is the wiring of the deluxe fenders, is this what i should be looking at?

OK got a little ahead of myself again. With flat top fenders , two lights in each fender, one on each side would be considered head lights, and other is flood light. I have seen them with just one flood light on each fender and using the original style head lights mounted along side of fuel tank. At any rate, only two lights should be going through the dimmer coil.

Sorry but still not getting it. my switch has 5 connections on it 2 have the dimmer between them one side of the dimmer goes to the instrument panel and other side goes to the HL which means head light i think... next to it is TL which i think means tail light... then next to that one it bat for battery.... then clear on the other side by itself is RL not sure what it stands for but on the diagram it shows it going to the rear light also. can't figure out how to hook the 4 lights (two on each side of the fenders....no other lights on the tractor) so inside ones come on only at low beam (which I have this) but want all 4 to come on high beam?
