Gear oil amount...

The M calls for 13 gallons of gear oil, there was only about 5 gallons in it when I drained it out. I replaced it with 80w90, I put 10 gallons in, should I put the last 3 gallons in or leave it at 10? I was afraid that I didn't get all the old oil out and didn't want to over fill it...can you over fill it? thanks, Anthony

Assuming that you drained all three plugs from the bottom, there should be room for 13.
In front of the left brake drum, near the clutch actuating rod there is a pipe plug. The oil level is correct when within 1/2 inch of that plug, or running out a little. Jim

I removed all 3 plugs from my '40 M, let it set and drain for about 3 days, and 11 gallons was all I could get back in it.

Only 2 transmission drain plugs on a M. Other one is a smaller one at the front of the transmission housing. Fill to the bottom of the check level plug on the left side of the transmission.
