Just put a new motor in my 706 that I got from a runnings store catalog that sells rebuilt engines.after installing the motor and running it for a short time the heat guage started to inch up to the hot level!Took the water pump out and all looked good and put in a different thermostat. After running it a few minutes it heated up again.Installed another new thermostat and it did it again.Took the thermostat out and it ran fine but after useing it over half the day raking hay it heated up again and started to overflow in the radfiator but the guage showed it to be cool yet.Can anyone tell me what I can do next to cure this.I would really appreciate any help!!Thanks!!Dave A

davemimm, Have you had the Radiator Serviced??? You didn't say, I assume You haven't. Before you go any further, Put it out send it to a shop and have it gone through!
You really can't make a real decision forward or backward, Pro/Con, till that Item is out of the Question!
It may be a Radiator problem or there may be an Issue with this Motor!
Hope this helps.

Next try another heat gauge.Sometimes they go bad.Go find a cheap 'mechanical' gauge and temporarily isnstall it to test.

sounds like you have one of those rebuilt engines with a cracked head. have you filled to top with coolant and watched for bubbles with engine idling.

Well here is what ya need to do to figure out what is going on , remove the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat unhook the water pump belt . This is to be done on a COLD engine fill the block with water till it is even with where the thermostat sets . Start the engine and rev it up hard , IF water comes shooting out like old faithful then HUSTON YOU have a problem with compression getting into the water system . This could indicate a leaking head gskt. a cracked head or cracked block . If nothing showes up there then i would be looking at a ing. timing issue and also what octane gas your running and maybe a lean burn condition due to a carb problem .
