1951 Farmall M front wheel bearings.

Hope to get a sense of what is needed to fix broken outer and worn inner wheel bearings. It is a standard tricycle front end. The outer (small) bearing had broken and has a pitted race. behind that race looks like a oil seal with no guts, just the steel ring? was this an oil seal? The race looks hard to remove?
The inner bearing(large one)has a good race but with the kits you get it too. The question is how to replace it as well? The hub seems to have a cup? driven in. what is it and is it to be replaced? I see reference to felt or leather seals? and I think they are at the very back? thanks so much. John.

First clean all the grease...Then you can see .The races just punch out.get a long drift.There should be a recess in the hub casting to punch from.Lay the hub flat on the ground,punch the race out.Flip it over,punch out the other side.The leather/felt are old originals.Replace with newer neopreme

Like Red says, but lay them on your big flat wood tool bench. Don't get the grass , leaves, dirt in them. Red,, Clean up you tool bench

I like to use a piece of 3/4 black iron pipe about a foot long to drive out the outer races, with about a 3-4 pound hammer. It is soft enough it wont damage the hub. Unless there is just a small notch for removal this woks well.

First off, the part that looks like part of a seal in the hub is a grease retainer. Originally an M would have one behind each cup in hub. Some get left out when replacing bearings as they get damaged when driving the cups out. They are a good deal but not absolutely necessary. The seal that comes in the kit is driven onto the spindle and seals inside the replaceable seal wear insert in hub. That should have come with the kit also.
