I have an early model Super M that need the bearing on the input shaft and the pilot bearing that goes in the back of the input shaft. Does the tractor have to be split to get the shaft out? I know (from experience on my H) that I have to remove the platform cover to change the pilot bearing to prevent rollers in the bottom of the trans. From taking a quick look there is not as much room in the Super as ther was on my H.

They can be changed without splitting. Helps to remove the belt pulley gear box or cover. Need to remove the hydraulic unit, clutch shaft and related parts to get it out. Then the 6 bolts that retain the input shaft housing and remove it.
If all the bearings are intact a rag can be put under them through the belt drive hole to catch stuff as you remove.
If you suspect loose parts in the transmission, removing the top cover and inspecting would give more piece of mind.
Still need to remove the transmission input shaft housing.

Thanks a lot. I am not dreading the job as much now. I am having shoulder surgery in a few weeks, I am hoping to have it done to use next spring. We will see.
