1086 running warm??

So the guage in my 1086 is showing it running right on the red line. It sher dosent seem hot. I have had some truble with the guage before where right as it starts it putts the HOT light on. Is it the guage thats faulty or the sending unit that screws into the block?? Can i use a inferred gun to check the temp of the block?? If so what temp should it be?? By the way all i've been doing is baling with a 435jd round baler latly and i dont think that is considered working it to hard!! Thanks for any help!!

gauges on the 86 series suck - pick up an aftermarket gauge and new sending unit, see what you really have. On cousin's 886 he mounted a board in the cab for temp, oil pres, and ammmeter

I custom baled for over twenty years and you radiator may be plugged up. My 1486 would run close to the red at times when the radiator would suck a lot of hay dust in the fins. Clean it out and would be back to normal. I had another one that did that also and it turned out to be clogged up on the inside. Took it to the radiator shop , got it cleaned out and it ran normal again also. The gauges on our 86 series all work and when running normal the gauge never gets half way even under a heavy load in the summer heat. I also changed the fan blades on all mine from 6 blade fan to heavy duty 8 blade fans. Makes a difference.

Todd is right about the gauges. I plumbed up a manual oil press gauge on my 1086 years ago because the electric one is crazy. Scared the he!! out of me the first time I saw it reading zero pressure while I was plowing. A good rap with a pliers brought it back up but it still does it. The first time it acted up was 10,000 hours ago. I have the manual gauge mounted just outside the lower right front window. The voltmeter isn't much better. Jim
