Is there anywhere online where I can look at a parts
fiche or diagram or do I just need to buy a parts
book?

First thing I do when I buy a tractor is to buy operators, service, and parts manuals. Diagrams are on CaseIH.com, but the books are much handier in the shop.

thank you everyone! Parts manual has been ordered, I am impatient and not wanting to wait till it gets here.

(quoted from post at 21:19:10 07/07/13) I think they both have their place. Books are becoming a thing of the past.

Unfortunately there is information in the books that is not available with the online listings.

Most of that info is available to the dealer via computer. It isn't currently available for the casual user looking up info online.

If you buy used manuals from a dealer, there's usually all kinds of helpful info scribbled in by hand as far as substitutions, alterations, etc. that weren't there when they were printed. Some may have been changed by the OE, some altered by dealers, some for similar parts from other equipment mfr.'s/aftermarket parts mfr.'s. I have a IH bearing catalog that has many MH/MF, Case, Delco Remy, along with some shortline bearing numbers on typed sheets in the front of the book that a dealer did on their own years ago. I have a hardware catalog that has some other mfr.'s hardware p/n's written in by hand alongside the IH numbers.
