this morning while moving hay bale the 186 hydro just quit moving, backed up to a bale, stopped and then no go, no forward or reverse but everything else works the hyd remotes steering brakes 3 point hitch, and pto all work. the clutch pedal light is working like always on when pedal is pushed off when pedal up. all the external linkages and control cables move like they should. there is a sound that seems to be different than before it happened it sounds like hyd fluid escaping from somewhere internal there is no external leaks and fluid is above the add mark. the hydro was rebuilt this past winter. Just looking for advise of where to start looking for a problem. I do have both the I T Manual and a genuine IH service manual for the hydro trans so you can make specific references if need.

Most likely one of the high pressure relief valves stuck and likely the one in the direction you were moving last. Either one stuck will prevent any movement. Don't overlook the foot n inch valve though as removing the return line from it there should be no oil coming out when trying to move. I always cap the two lines coming off side going to drive control valve just to make sure it is inside or outside. You will have no foot n inch valve operation though if you cap them so give yourself plenty of room to control with sr lever.

In the service book it shows how to isolate the drive control and foot n inch valves but they install separate isolation relief valves, are they required or can I just cap them off to test it.

You can just cap them off to test. The reason the book shows isolation valves is to protect from excess high pressure. The only way you will get that excess pressure is to have engine wound up and brakes locked so to just see if it will pull a light load you don't need them.
