another water pump question(farmall H)

Sorry to bother you all with another question. I've got all my seals, bearings, packing, etc. for the farmall H. I am going by the service manual from tractor supply btw. I've got the water pump broken down to the point of where I've knocked out hard to find pin on the pulley. Now it appears I have to press the pulley off to remove the bearings and seals? The manual doesn't mention anything about pressing out the pulley and I don't see many people mention doing this when talking about rebuilding a water pump. However I don't see how else to remove the seals.

Yes, the pulley/hub has to come off. It is usually not a tight fit and will come off with a little judicious prying and tapping. Make sure you remove the nut on the end or it will never come off!!

You don't need to press the pulley off unless you are replacing the adjustable half of pulley. Seals and bearings just drive on out and back in. The center with bushings and packing in has to be pressed out if you are replacing it. IH never supplied bushings for the H so we always had to replace that section if bushings were worn. I have found bushings that fit though and replaced them.

Ok. So there must be something I'm missing. Because the bearings and seals can't be driven out from what I'm seeing. I am looking at both sides and I see the seals on each side with the two bearings and the bearing spacer in the middle. However both sides are to narrow to allow the seals and bearings to be driven out. It looks like one side may be able to be removed but it won't budge. So I think I'm missing something.

One bearing and one seal come out each end. Pry out the seal and then drive the bearing out. The center of the pulley casting is smaller that the OD of the bearings. The bearings are pressed into the pulley until the OD bottoms on the machined area. The center tube is there so that when the retaining nut is tightened the bearing ID is held in place without applying pressure on the OD.
