Getting ready to put some paint down on the sheet metal and have a few questions for the experiened. What ratio are you using on paint, hardener and thinning agent? What time are you waiting to apply recoats and how many coats do you use. Anyone putting clear over the Case IH paint and was anything gained with the clear? Thanks for all and any advice.

When I did my "M" I used 2150 right from the dealer. Used their thinner and their hardener. I also used an HVLP gun set at around 17 lbs if memory serves.
Easy to use. Just followed the directions and the job turned out very well. I get many compliments. Did the work about 5 years ago and it still looks terrific,if I say so my self.

Do what the can says for mixing. It is probably 8 parts paint to 1 part reducer. With hardener it is probably 4:1:1, but I don't use 2150, I prefer PPG urethane, which is better paint, also about twice the cost or more than 2150. For hardener you need supplied air to protect your lungs. The only advantage to hardener is that it cures faster allowing mistakes to be corrected the next day. Hardened or not the paint will look about the same. Coats are about 10-15 minutes apart. 3 should do it. If you are using a HVLP gun, set the air at the spec on the gun or in the instructions. Don't change it as it is designed to give 10 psi at the tip. The pressure is reduced inside the gun, and different brands vary as much as 100% or more at the inlet. Fluid flow and pattern adjustment work best wide open. I use a smaller gun for individual parts and get better coverage and save paint. I wouldn't use clear over the paint. Clear works best in the base-clear system.

I use the NAPA urethane, they recommend 841, but I have best results with 821. I also move up one temperature range on reducer.
