I could use some help trying to determine the best choice for the exact shade of colors for a single bottom little genius plow. I have determined what color each part has to be from photo's and a replica scale model. Mostly which shade of blue.
Thanks...

NAPA can mix an IH blue which is a very very dark blue. This is the correct blue from my recollection of our 2-16 Little Genius from when I was a kid.

As I recall, Hitch black, axle stuff and backside of the moldboards, tail wheel, dark blue. Tail wheel rim, zinc. Front wheel rims, cream but the old yellow ish cream, not the cream used for example on the IH560 tractor.
Cannot remember about the coulters but maybe some one can chime in.

I believe the coulters were black with the blades being mill finish. I know they were on the C-series plows.

IH #1150B blue goes on axles, hubs, lift springs, backs of moldboards, and lifting parts (some variation here due to so many lifting parts). Do NOT use Ford blue...not a correct match.

IH Cream for wheels is most closely matched today with IH #935 White....it is a cream and is close to what was used on wheels years ago. Rear wheel is cream also.

Gloss black on hitch and coulter arms and coulter hubs only.

IH Red on frame.

I have some pics of a plow with this color scheme if interested.

Tony,
In my opinion, your #8 plow is the best looking one I have seen, and the paint scheme is the most accurate I have seen.
Of course, mine looks just like it!

I painted mine about 5 yrs ago, I use it for a few hours every year at a plow day, then scrub it up for exhibiting at a couple local shows each summer, and it stills looks pretty good.

The wear parts should not be painted anyway, so all the other parts that get dirty are easily cleaned. My plows are stored inside so nothing is applied to the moldboards, but at over-night shows I give them a squirt of WD40 and that keeps them in shape until I get back home.

Sure is a great plow to pull, does an excellent job. The trip rope is high tech to this old man.

Tony,
After more study, I see you painted the coulter arms blue...old IH archives paint committee decisions state coulter arms to be black, like the hitch. But it is your plow, enjoy! What a beauty.

I bought several cans of the Ace paint and have been kind of disappointed with the gloss level. I would try a different brand if I had it to do over.
