Found this 1956 Diamond T Series 536 on Seattle craigslist. It has
only 23k miles-- was a fire tanker truck for Summit Fire
Department, then spent 30 yrs with an independent logging
company. Its taken quite a bit of work to get it this far! The original
tank and pumps removed and bed is being altered a little, to
become a long narrow box pickup. It has a 450 ci Red Diamond
gas engine, that came back to life beautifully. Removed duals, and
modified wheels to make single rear.

That is a beauty. Surprisingly in nice shape considering it belonged to a logging company. It doesn't take a very long time in the woods to look like a disaster.

Great looking truck. Do you have plans for the bed? As far as wood, or steel/diamond plate? Keep us posted until its done.

Will be using the original steel sides and front panels w/ minor changes. The tank was resting on the frame, so a new steel framework and wood deck are being made. Will post progress pics as we go.

In that era, IH and Diamond T did a little parts swapping. You'll notice this truck has what IH called their "Comfo-Vision" cab when they introduced it in late 1949. IH also used the cab developed by Diamond T for IH's first true "cab-over-engine" [COE] trucks. The "Sightliner" was an IH attempt to use the Comfo-Vision cab as a COE, but it made the cabs quite a bit taller than the Diamond T cab.
