cub compression

I have cub just got a little bit ago tried to get running but no go it pops and tries to go but just wont did a compression test number 1 was a 100 2 was 55 number 3 60 and number 4 was 75 do any of you guys think that"s the reason

Why pull start to get running?
Will it start with the starter later? I have one
that I suspect compression to be the problem.

IMHO if the engine will not start with the electric starter there is something very wrong. Pull starting is not a fix, it's just to see if the engine will run.

Pull starting will spin the engine faster and might generate enough pressure in the cylinders to cause ignition.

The engine may clean up and develop more compression after being run a while, though. Stuck rings, sticky valves, things like that may come loose once the engine warms up a bit.

I took the head off checked all the valves they are all working I think some of the rings are stuck probaly going to let it sit till fall and then rebuild it

I just got a '52 a few weeks ago. It would start and run on 2 cylinders 1&4. 2&3 both had stuck rings and minimal compression.

I ran the tractor till it got good and warm, and took a bottle of MMO, and at full throttle, drizzled it into the throat of the carb till it almost choked out. Then let it recover.

I did this a 2nd time, and then, the third time I let the oil choke out the engine.

Turned off the gas and the ignition and walked away for 3 days.

Pulled the plugs and spun the motor. Replaced plugs with new Champion D-21 and a new cap and wires and set of points.

It fired rite up with a slight miss, and smoked to beat the band. But, after running it a while, bringing it up to temp and putting it under load, all the rings freed up, it purrs like a kitten and will start on the 2nd pull of the hand crank.

no longer smokes at all, no blow-by and lots of power.
