Super A Exhaust Pipe Thread Size

I need to run a pipe tap into my Super A exhaust manifold to freshen up the threads for the pipe that the muffler slips over. What size is it? 1" pipe? 1 1/4 pipe?

It is 1-1/2 in NPT thread. A least expense is to find a plumber, next is to purchase a cheap tap on line, the third is to buy a brand name tap and pay big bucks. Jim

If the thread isn't too bad, and you are just trying to clean it up, a wire brush with a 1/4 inch shank in your drill can do a nice job too.... even cheaper than a cheap tap..

Be very careful when using a tap on those manifold threads, these manifolds are very easy to crack. (Ask me how I know). Try to get as much old pipe and built up carbon as you can,and use brake clean instead of oil to clean both the tap and the manifold threads, and go slowly-clean often. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I have several npt taps. I needed to know the size to take with me when I work on it. Good info on breaking easy. I'll take my time and go easy.

I have a tap for those threads and use wd-40 to help loosen up the crud when chasing the threads being very careful back and forth.
