For them what helped me and for them that might search the archives down the road.
What I ended up doing was making a stepped key. The key way on the long control arm was fine but the rounded key way on the linkage for the woodruff key was wallered out considerably larger than the size 7 key that was supposed to fit in there. I bought a #9 key of the same dimension as the 7. This filled the widened opening of the key way. I took the whole thing up to a local machine shop and consulted with a machinist. He opened up the linkage key way the rest of the way to accommodate the #9 key and then machined the exposed part of the key back down to #7 width. So we had a stepped down key and the control arm slides on tightly and the slop is removed from that part of the linkage. I believe the entire linkage is now tight and I can adjust the bands. Need to wait for another set of hands. Problem with the "U" is that I cannot operate the control arm from the rear of the tractor around all the hydraulic hoses, etc. Hope all that makes sense.
A good machine operator is worth his price. No doubt. Save me a lot of time.
