farmall 460 hydraulic pump

I have a Farmall 460 and am getting low hydraulic pressure at the outlets. Only 1250 psi. I put brand new Hy-tran in it, a new pump, a new hydraulic filter and even cleaned the screen on the relief valve. What else could be wrong with it? Thanks for the help

The spring on the pressure relief could be weak. The valve could be stuck in its bore (especially if the fluid gets hot, or the pressure varies dramatically with engine speed. (just Ideas) Jim

That 1250 psi is pretty much what you get. Book says to 1500 but that is a rare bird that gets it. It is the flow that counts more than pressure to determine if it is working properly. A good system will deliver a minimum of 80 percent of free flow at 250 psi below maximum. The relief valve on those is pretty much fool proof unless the spring has been subjected to over heating many times. I have seen light washers added to the spring to get more psi.

If you have a lot of loss within the system, the pressure can vary with engine RPM. If the valve spools are not worn and the relief valve is not leaking by internally, you should get the same pressure at less than full throttle as you do at full. If you do get the same 1250psi at 1/2 throttle as full, then the rest of the system is good and the relief valve spring may need to be shimmed or replaced to bring it back to 1500psi or reasonably close to that.
I believe the majority of these have the 12gpm pump and the 17 was an option... do you know which you have?
