Farmall 450 hydraulic questions

I have a Farmall 450 Gas. It"s been working great, until I started her up this spring. I noticed that the rear cylinder would not push up as smoothly as before, even without a load on it. I didn"t think too much of it as it could use some work, or just a new ram. But when I started driving with the power steering, that was giving me some resistance. It would eventually help me turn, but I really needed to turn the steering wheel back and forth kinda emphasizing the way I wanted it to turn and it would then it would help out a little at a time. I was able to turn hay and bale just fine, just a little annoying. So I am think that it could be the pump, since I have 2 things not working quite right. Is that a good assumption?? How would I go about making 100% sure that it is the pump, does not look the easiest to take out, but also not the hardest either.
Thanks for any input on my situation.

Tony

Three items to check:
Fluid level
Intake screen in the tank
and
Screen and orifice in the safety/regulator valve
A fourth is the possibility that there is an air leak into the suction piping or connections. Jim

Intake screen is #1 item to check. Easiest , also.
When we split ours last year for a clutch job, our screen was sucked together & full of whatever.

Ok, I will try and check on Thursday.

Just so I am clear, the "intake screen in the tank"
is that the same thing as the big filter that is shaped like a bottle? or is that something else entirely?

Hi if you have a quick coupler on your hoses you could check the pressure. I have a gauge setup on a quick coupler for checking pressure. You could check for leaks, I had some between the blocks and leak a leak inside my rams (with no visible fluid leaks from the rams).
