regular piston

On the farmall regulars, f-30, w-30 and 10-20 you can pull the piston out the bottom. You need to remove the oil pan, take off the bearing cap, rotate the crank as you pull the piston out the bottom.

For reassembly, there is a chamfer on the bottom of the sleeve to aid in putting the piston (rings) in from the bottom.

thanks one last question when the piston broke it took about half inch out of the bottom of the sleve is that gone to matter? thanks

Half an inch from the bottom of the sleeve shouldn't matter as long as there aren't any cracks that progress into the water jacket. And you should be able to replace everything through the hand holes, as long as your arms are flexible enough. It may be easier with the oil pan off. BTW the pistons have to come out the bottom on a regular.

I would chance the sleeve. Those regulars had a bottom oil ring and if memory serves, I think the piston skirt is exposed below the sleeve, so there may be a chance of the ring hanging up on the crack and locking up. If that happens, many pieces could appear.

i would be a little leary about that sleeve. is it broke 1/2 inch from the bottom and up? or is it a piece about 1/2 inch wide across the bottom?

as far as the rings hanging up, they don't get that far down on the sleeve
