No start when hot

I have a '44 H I just restored. When I start it cold, it fires up immediately. Once the engine is warm and I shut it off it won't start. The electrical is all fine and I'm getting a spark at the plugs.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for?

Happy Fathers Day everyone.

You may have a pin hole in your carburetor's float that's sinking causing the flooding. Take the float out and shake it listening for gas inside the float. There could be dirt or rust under the seat that won't allow the float to stop the gas flow. Hal

Coil could be going bad, see if it is real hot when it dies. If it's too hot to hold your hand on, it's bad. Should re-start after placing some ice on it for a few minutes to cool it down.

Are you getting the spark as soon as it dies. Its not gas or it wouldnt run long enough to get warm. Do youhavethe original mag that came on the tractor.

I must not be getting all of the thread on this post. None of the post I read said anything about 'flooding'. One thing that was not posted is whether the tractor has a mag or battery/distributor. Either way it could be the coil over heating or a condenser problem. As far as fuel goes it could be vapor lock in the fuel line. Check to see if any of the fuel lines are near the manifold or engine block.

The next time you use the tractor and before you shut the engine off, get off the tractor and shut off the gas at the fuel tank. Wait a few minutes to see if the engine will start. I would turn the gas on after it starts. Hal

It's a distributor. Also, I get fuel pouring out of the carb at times. The coil does seem to be hot at times (the coil is new and all the internals of the distributor are new).

Pull the carb off. That's a 10 minute job. Remove the four bolts and break it into top and bottom. Repair whatever is wrong with the float/needleseat.30 minutes. Replace carb 10 minutes.
Hint: grind down the closed socket end and the open end of a 9/16 comb wrench for the rear nut.
When the carb is fixed report back.

Spark and good spark are two different things. You need a good blue white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. You also need fuel and not to much or not to little. So you say you restore it then compression should not be a problem since the engine if a true restore will be back to factory specs. So is that correct or did you just do a paint job and call it restored?????????

So if you have a dist and the coil gets hot thatsprobably the culprit. Like i said its not gas or it wouldnt run long enough to get hot. Get a name brand not TSC stuff. Condensers can also be tricky and replace them also with name brand even those go funny. I had one go funny replaced with another and its been running for several yrs now as the new one only lasted half day on a tractor ride

I did a complete tear down to the last bolt. It has new pistons, sleeves and rings), rebuilt head (a few new valves). New generator, voltage regulator and wires.

In that case check that you have good compression when hot. Your valves maybe set a bit to tight and if so are not closing up when it is warmed up
