CASTING DATE CODES

Was talking to a older guy today and he said that the letter Q was not used in 1947. He said that if you have one it is a experimental model. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks By the way this guy was a dealer for years.

I have a 1947 M, it has Q casting codes on some castings and on others uses the number 47.

Have a 47 H with Q codes and have seen many other 47 H and M's with Q codes as well. Jim

He may be thinking later. According to my notes, Between 1955 and 1976 letters I, Q, U, and V were not used. Come to RPRU and get a pocket notepad with the date code list on the cover. Compliments of the Cowboard.

IIRC The letter Q was also used on the serial tags of experimental equipment, so I would assume thats where he is getting that from.

The only letter not used with more or less certainty is V. 1947 is the year that the letter notation was used the least, does not mean Q was not used at all.
