M Transmission shifter adjustment

The transmission mainshaft was broken and I replaced. Now when the shifter AND shifter rails are all in neutral position, the transmission is in 4th gear. It will not shift to 5th gear. What am I doing wrong?

Looking through the belt pulley cover you can see (using a good LED light) the issue. It may be that the fork is not in the gear, or it could be the gears are assembled wrong. Best of luck, It will probably need the cover taken off. Jim

All gears appear to be in the right place. The shifter works right in all gears except 4th and 5th. The shifter when in neutral position allows the gear to be in the 5th gear position(all the way forward). When the Shifter is in the 4th position the gear is in 4th (all the way back). When you try to move the shifter from the neutral position to the 5th position, it will not move as the gear is all the way forward.

Assuming the tractor moves in 4th gear when the shifter is in neutral, the only thing I can imagine as wrong is a bent shifter fork. Look at the diagram CaseIH.com to see the correct location. Jim

if you had the trans. apart maybe the gear got put in backwards. just my thought as dont know what all you did to trans.if all rails are in neutral then if gear is backwards it will hold it in a gear.
