Monroe easy ride seat-Farmall Super A

My '51 Super A has a Monroe easy ride seat. The problem is that every bushing (in both the shock absorber and seat pivot pin) is completely worn out or missing. Does anyone know a source for new bushings? Are the pivot pin bushing interchangeable with the bushings on a Super C, H, or M? Thanks.

I don't know about the parts for the Monroe Seat Roger, but if you find ANYTHING out, please let me know. I have one as well and when you sit on it the bushings are so worn, you move side to side like it is going to tip you over! Just about every Monroe seat I've seen on these tractors is like that. Would be nice to get a bushing kit to fix them!

I'm in the middle of the same repair job. The rubber bushngs are all compatable/interchangeable regardless of the tractor type. The Easy Ride seat was standard issue on other tractors but for the Super A, Monroe offered it as an after-market option. Some SA Easy Ride parts are unique to that model and since it was after-market, these parts will not be found in IH inventories. The main pivot shaft is one of them. It was made to fit between holes that were already on the SA and the shaft is longer than any that are available for the other tractors. The pivot bolts are 1/2 inch fine thread-lots of engagement surface-with fairly thin walls around them. I cracked one of the threaded ends while trying to extract the bolt. I bought one of the shorter pivots that are available, cut it in half and welded in a spacer to bring it to the proper OAL. I'm pretty sure the pivot mount brackets that bolt to the platform are unique too. The holes in mine for the pivot bolts were ovalized. These were filled and redrilled. Mounting the Easy Ride seat on an SA means the serial number plate goes by the way. Casting numbers on the main chassis parts can be used to tell the year the tractor was made.

Charles, thanks for the info. So, basically, any pivot shaft will have the correct bushings, even though the shaft itself may not work?

Roger: You may want or have to remove the seat pivot brackets that the main seat pivot mounts on. The sheet-metal pedal guard will have to be removed to allow access to the nuts holding the bracket screws. There are three slotted head screws holding the back of the guard and two hex head screws at the front. It is not immediately obvious, but removing the two hex-head screws and shooting grease in their holes is the only way to lube the break-pedal pivots and it should be done periodically.

I finally got around to changing the bushings on my Monroe Easy Ride seat. The bushings for the shock absorber and pivot pin are all the same (see them here: http://www.link_disallowed/IHS325-rubber-seat-bushing). I ordered four on eBay (it takes six to do an entire seat, but only four were worn on my seat) for $10, including shipping. I'm very happy with the results; there is absolutely no side play or "wiggle" in the seat assembly. I had considered replacing the Easy Ride seat with a stock seat assembly because it was such a pain with the back and forth slop. Now, I wouldn't trade the Easy Ride seat for ten stock seats. My Super A is now a real joy to ride, although my behind might like a seat cushion!
