lp706 turbo questions

Has anyone out there ever turboed a propane tractor? I know there is a bolt on kit for gas engines available but i was looking for a more cost effective aproach using one off a subaru that i already have.
What happens if you blow the air through the lp carb? I understand why you can't a gas carb but what is in the lp carb to mess up?

We had a neighbor that put a turbo on a Ford 428 into a 1970 F-250 farm pickup on LP. If I remember right, he ran the hose from the compressor right into the LP carb. Also, he had some sort of water injection hooked up. I don't see why it wouldn't work on an LP tractor.

You can't take a stock LP carb and blow thru it either. They are designed/calibrated to operating under manifold pressures less than atmospheric - sending pressurized air thru just won't work.

You can mount a regular LP carb on the inlet side of the turbo. But this may cause problems with oil sucked into thru the compressor shaft seal at idle/light load.

Or you can get a "blow thru" LP carburetor setup designed to operate under boost pressure and mount it after the turbo.

At work we had an Onan natural gas-powered emergency generator. Prime mover was a turbocharged Ford V-8 engine. The Impco fuel system consisted of a simple throttle body mounted atop the intake manifold with the throttle shaft connected to the the engine governor. An external gas regulator metered the gas and dumped it into the turbocharger inlet thru a simple tee fitting at the compressor inlet. The regulator received flow/pressure signals from taps above and below the throttle plate.

Once adjusted system worked very well. However the exhaust manifolds would glow cherry red after the generator ran a couple minutes at full load.

I built one quite a few years ago for a farmer friend. We blew through the lp carb. All you need to do is run a balance line from the carb/manifold to the port on the front of the regulator. Realize that lp will detonate at intake temps above 115 degrees, so water injection is a must 50/50 alcohol is even better. We used an electric fuel pump to inject the water. timing will have to be adjusted with a dyno. We ran it at approxamately 115hp on the pto. As far as i know it"s srill running today

Just you and me by the fence here turboing a C-263-291-301 would be the furthest thing on my mind on a four main bearing block with limited head bolts let lone having detonation in the manifold or charger . Played with a turbo on a Oliver one time with a far better block and head set up , really hate picking up pieces and parts off the ground a hundred feet away from the tractor. and oh then there is the fire ya need to put out .
