Late model 966 ('76). Replacing injector pump.

No timing marks on the dampner and the flywheel opening is covered by the cab.

Front cover off the tach drive and I see two marks on the idler gear and the pointer on the injector pump.

How do I find #1 top center again?

Thanks,

Allan

You look through the half inch pipe plug hole on rear side of front cover. Mark on hub to timing pointer. Will not be tdc, rather about 18 degrees btdc. Can be cyl six or one. I can readily tell if pump still works by removing three bolt plate , lines to injection nozzles at pump, all other lines still hooked up, open throttle, turn pump with ratchet and see where fuel exits head fittings. I have never seen a factory cab you cannot get at timing marks. Some not easy but can do. Have to take off that corner shield.

ejr is correct. Line up the pointer with the mark in the hole in the pump, I think you may also be able to see it with the front cover off. If it don't start, take off the front drive gear and turn the pump one turn and reinstall. Just did this with a 1066 engine.
