Can a 300 run a snowblower?

I'm looking at a 6-7' blower coming up at an auction and am wondering if my 300 row crop would be slow enough in reverse to use it in low TA. Any advice will be much appreciated.

It is slow in reverse TA, but it might not have the moxy to deal with a 6 footer in 14 inches of moderately wet snow. I think a 5 foot unit is more like it. (or a 35 horse engine on the blower.) Jim

Thank you very much, that makes sense. We get mostly lake effect snow which is very light and fluffy but can pile up 2' or more overnight sometimes.

The first pass is tough no matter what rig you have. Once you've made the first cut, you can shave as much as it'll take after that. A 300 will be light on power but anything can be done with enough patience. I have a 7 foot McKee and it will bring my 120hp 766 to its knees if I push hard enough. I usually run the blower on my 656D hydro which is the cats a$$.

For the first pass there is nothing that says you have to do the whole depth on the first pass. It works for me.

I have also have a 7 foot Mckee on our 60hp and it struggles in heavy, deeper wet stuff or cutting back the banks. My big issue is the even in low the reverse gear is too fast. We only use it a few times a winter. It is more for emergency if the truck breaks down

The secret is to run ONE tire chain. Leave one tire bare.

The bare tire will spin on the ice when the snow gets too deep, and you can edge yourself back by touching the brake for the bare tire and pushing along with the chained tire.

Good advice, the tractor that normally carries the blower doesn't run chains, and I've found that a little slippage makes the difference in not overwhelming the tractor. If I need traction, lifting the blower is enough to lift the front tires a hair and put all the weight on the drive wheels.
