My tractor is stuck in forward--I've been able to un-jam it before but now it won't.

Are you able to unjam it by taking some of the platform metal off and manually working the shifter linkage?

F/R linkage is all under the left side shifters, speed transmission would be a lot easier to unjam as the main shift forks are under the metal cover between your legs.

on my C farmall, sometimes, i can jack up rear wheel, rock the wheel and tranny will loosen up.

Hi Lake, if I understand you correctly the HI/LO/REV lever is stuck in HI or LO, correct?
Does it have the older style gear shift levers that are slide inside a slot?

This tractor has 2 transmissions, front one is speed transmission with gears 1 thru 4 and the range transmission(Hi/Lo/Rev) is in front of the diff. It would appear your range transmission is stuck in Hi or Lo.
DO NOT FORCE the Hi/Lo/Rev shifter lever or you will snap off the shift lever that goes through the side of the transmission case.
With engine off, chock the rear wheels, put speed transmission lever in between 2 and 3 then crawl under tractor and inspect range transmission lever mechanism for obstructions etc. You will see were mechanism connects to lever on side of transmission behind the hydraulic filter.
Usually by some wiggling the mechanism and maybe a little prying you can free the shift lever.
