3688 on a round baler

I have an IH 3688 that has been on a round baler many times throughout the years. A mechanic told me recently that it was not wise to use it on the baler because when you are sitting with the clutch in to tie the bale certain bearings were not getting any lubrication. Can anybody validate this or was he mixing up models? It's baling time again and my 3688 would be handy on the baler!

If you've been using it as long as you imply, and it hasn't broke down on you yet, it's not likely to now.

What's your other option? Don't bale? That's not an option.

I think the differential is the only part whose lubrication is affected when the clutch is in, and it's not turning so you should be ok.

You are dumping the lube oil to some internals but it sure isn't going to hurt it to run it a minute or two with clutch down. If it did I am afraid there would be very few 706 to 3688 tractors that last a week.
