What kind of luck have ya had with 'M' aftermarket radiators

Took mine off and don't like what I see. I can see it has had extensive repairs done to it in the past, and it does hold water, but oh, so ratty looking. Looks like some metal eating rats go a hold of it. It's very ate up on the outside. Just can't see putting that POS back in. So I'm looking for a replacement. Recommendations?

I have read some bad press on some of the aftermarket ones. What say ye?

Patrick,
I purchased a new one for my SM. I read the horror stories befor purchasing. It fit perfectly. It is not as heavy duty as original but in my opinion more than adequate.

Bought an M a year ago with a new one. It is well made, but none of the holes line up. With everything on the tractor there is about 3/4 of an inch gap between the nose piece and the tin behind it. Has to be that radiator and its mountings as I have tried other tin and parts from other M's and that radiator is the only difference between it working and not working.

Keeps the tractor nice and cool and doesn't leak - that's what I really need in a daily use tractor.

Hey Pete, who'd you buy it from, if you don't mind me asking?

Hey notjustair, I'd also like to know where you got yours from. If you don't mind, it's better if you reply by private email on this one. After all, we don't want to publicly accuse anyone of selling inferior products. Not cool. My email is [email protected]

I got one for my H and the holes did not line up very well. I ended up spending a half day grinding and drilling.

I would recore.

Yeah, except finding a good radiator shop these days is almost impossible.

Most so-called radiator shops these days only want to sell you one of those Chinese reproductions that don't fit, for 2X what you can get them for online.

My radiator guy(really good) told me the aftermarket ones are of thinner construction and fatigue crack from vibration. He said some are better than others, but none are as good as the original. I ended up having him recore the OEM one for my SMD.

I replaced mine with one from this site. (YT Parts) 1951 M. It fit perfectly and has been ok and cools great

I had the exact same experience with my 706.

I just checked YT parts, and their shipping charges seems very reasonable for such a bulky part. Anyone else besides HenryO has had similar positive results with YT parts 'M' radiators?

I also found the radiator bad in my 400D when I bought it two years ago.I had read the bad reports on the after market units and had my local shop recore mine.It took about two months, and when I got it back the steering shaft hole was about an inch off.I had to send it back twice, and still had to grind on the frame mounting pad to get the shaft through.I have had no heating problems since though.

There is a radiator for sale on Phoenix craigslist. I think the ads says for a 51M, the photo shows the date and it looks like new. I think the guy selling it is named Andy. I looked at a 400 he had for sale some time back
