Farmall m carb issues

Took the carb apart cause the needle for the float was stuck. Cleaned it so it would move freely. Now it runs great for about 10 seconds then its starts smoking black and fuel comes out of the intake from the carb like I constantly have the choke on and its getting flooded. What did I put together wrong?

The float pivot pin is brass. It is EXACTLY the same dia. as a 1/8 brazing rod. My float kept slipping off the pivot pin because the pivot pin kept coming out of the brackets in the carb. I cut one about 1/16 of an inch longer and have had no more problems. This might be a possibility. Ellis

Ellis and Rusty probably have the answer. However, I had a Super M that float got bent while working on carb and rubbed the side of bowl and also the float wasn't floating just as described with improper pin installation.

You pinch the slotted end of float support before you insert the pivot pin. Just enough so you need to expand the slot a little like with a small screwdriver so pin fits tight.

Also like others have also said, float gets bent and can rub sides.

The original float pin is steel. Not brass. The replacement float pins are also made of steel. I"ve rebuilt countless M and H carburetors. Never have I encountered a float pin made of brass.
