farmall h questions

The P.T.O on my H won't stay in gear.I assume the detent spring is broken .Where is it? How do I get to it?
Also brakes squeal when pressed but the lining is very good. Can I buff the lining to stop the noise?

I sanded the smooth glaze off the inside of my H brake bands, but I did not turn down the drums becuase I would remove too much mat erial. Went to O"Reilly"s and bought anti-squeal CRC Disc Brake Quiet, and also some Versa-hem caliper grease, and applied the CRC pretty thick to the outside of the bands. Let the CRC dry, over several weeks. Lubed the pivots up with the Versa-Chem. It"s slightly quieter, but it still squeals.

I do not know how the detent in the PTO is accessed, but it is quite easy to pull the whole thing out and either replace the whole assembly or figure out how to get inside it. There are just 5 bolts that hold the PTO on and then you just need to drain some gear oil or park the tractor with the front downhill.
