I"m still having a problem with the gov on my 706G,It wants to surge from idle to noload when you open up the throttle,I have had it apart three times and every thing looks good,no binding or worn parts, the buffer screw adjustment won"t fix it,nothing is binding in the linkage, acts like the gov spring is causing the rock shft lever to snap over center, anyone ever had this problem?farm-al

I think your problem is that you do not have the carb scyed to the gov.Remove the headed pin that holds the linkage from the gov to the carb. Then pull the hand throttle wide open and move the carb throttle shaft to wide open and see if the pin will slide in . If nothing lines up then you must adjust the clevis on the rod so that the pin will slide in freely then add one half turn out and install the pin and replace the cotter pin and try it.

Thanks for the reply Vet,I was hoping you would see this post, however that adjustment has been made and rechecked, I bought a new clevis from IH,[18.00 ouch!!!]thinking the slop in the old one could be part of the problem, didn't help. Are you aware of any kind of high performance gov kit that could have been installed in this gov,ie:M&W or something like that,I see no IH numbers on the weights, maybe they didn't put numbers on them, not sure.thaks again farm-al

Check the set screw that holds the gov lever to the fork. They will work loose & internal slack can cause a surge. Also have a buffer spring inside that breaks. There is an adjusting on the back of the gov for this.
