# 58 planter

Friend has a # 58 international planter #58 I belive. Has always been sheded and looks to be in nice shape. I is six row,30 inch and has 3 boxs on each row.. looks to be ground driven like most old planters. Has markers and a cyclinder to lift it out of ground. He told me $250 would buy it. Does that sound about right to you IH guys that have use them, as I dont know to much about it.Any input from anybody would certainly be apreciated. Posted this once before and didn't get a response. Hope someone will jump in this time. Thanks Morris

It is hard to go too wrong for $250.

I got my 456 planter for the same money and I feel I got a pretty good deal. I have never seen a 58.

The equipment place near me had 2 456 planters and let me take a few parts off of them since they were just going to scrap them.

Does it have dd openers or the sword type? It sounds like there is a seed, fertilizer and insecticide hopper on each row.

If everything works like it should, I say go for it.

Thanks Matt for your input. It is apreciated. You ask weather it had dd or sword type openeners ,tell the turth about it, i dont remember now as it has been awhile since i looked at it,but do know when i did it look it seemed to be in nice shape. Im going over to take a look again in a couple days. Was wondering if you would care to share your opinion on which type of opener works the best and why.. Thanks Matt.

The 58 series was just a heavier frame for 6-8 row, openers and most other parts same as 56, they had 2 types of openers, runners or disc, same as 56 that was originally called a 456, 4 row, then 658 was renamed 58.

They are a good planter. Basicly the same as a #56. Had a #58 and was a good planter, only 4 row wide. Lost it in a tornado. Have used 2 other #56 since then before I finally went with a 7000 series with finger pick units. Parts may be a little hard to find now a days. Dad has a #56 sitting in the shed. First planter he bought new. Still in great shape. It is mine now that he has retired. Have no room here for storage. Want to go through and restore it to like new for shows and such. Will be my memory of him after he passes.

I"d buy it. I use a 56 series planter every year to plant corn for silage. Good planter. Wear parts still relatively easy to get. Does it have a seed monitor on it?

Six row narrow is a good set-up. I would love to find one near me for that price. Hard to beat $250.

Best of luck.
