whats the fastest way to tell the difference between the 404 and 504?? i bought a tractor from the junk yard it has no emeblems on it.. its got some issues and i need to know what i have to be able to go forward with fixing it.... on the block below the head it states c-153 which by tractor data would make it a 504 but the exhaust goes under the tractor and not out the top.. any help will be very appreciated

404 has a C135; unless there is a hole in the hood the exhaust going out the rear was a factory option. There is also an INTERNATIONAL 504 which is more likely to have the rear exhaust.

sorry i shoulda speciafied that yes this is a international.. well i guess i bought a 504 lol.... i paid 450 for the tractor..... i dunno if i am gonna keep it or not so i dont wanna buy a manual.... any idea on how to drain the hydraulics under the seat?? someone opened it up and left it unsealed and now its pure milk... also its in neautral but the tires seemed to still be in gear. any ideas on what would cause that?

Buy the book! at 30 bucks, thats cheap, especially if
your unfamiliar with the tractor...Even if you dont
keep it,pass it to the 'new' owner,he will thank
you!It may even 'help' to sell the tractor.

Brakes could be rusted up.

Could be the shifter slipped out of a fork while the tractor was in gear. Pull the shifter tower off and look down in.

the right hand brake is off for some reason.. i took the shifter out and the detents look to be in neatural but if u rotate the tires one turns one way an the other turns the other way ... if i take the hydraulics off the tractor is it one whole unit?? i'm gonna try to get down the shifter forks to see why its not shifting ...

well we took the hydraulic pump off the tractor and took the top completely off the trans and differetial and found that the first shifter fork had been broke and also were guessing when it brke it fell into the gears and broke quite a few teeth off the bottom gears that are on the pto shaft.... i have located shifter forks but not bottom gears yet..
