450 w/ side-mount Electrall: What to do...

My father's got a 450 with a side-mount Electrall (see an earlier post from me titled "Electrall (tractor mounted)" for discussion and pictures).

He's been trying to decide what to do with it and, basically, he wants to move it.

Has anyone got some good ideas on the best way to approach this, i.e., should we post it "for sale" here, should we take it to some local (Quad-cities, for us) auction, should we post it on Ebay? Should we part it out (sell the tractor and Electrall separately) or sell it as a unit (as it is now)?

We're very interesting in anyone's comments.

Thanks greatly,

Jim

Jim, leave it as a complete unit. Post for sale on YT first. See how much interest you get. Than go to craigs list or EBay if needed. oldiron29

Call Mecum Auction service in Walworth, WI. They have two consignment sales each year. Their fall auction is in August in Walworth, WI. They specialize in ultra rare tractors and usually get very good prices (especially on over restored tractors) If you called them and told them what you had I could about gaurantee it would be one of the feature tractors. If you want money right away they will buy it from you right now so you don't have to wait until August. I would do that or eBay. Selling it on here or Craigslist will not help establish it's true value. It is also a rather small market.

If you want to get the most money out of it, post it on ebay. seen some electral stuff bring silly money. leave it on the tractor when you take pics of it though so it shows that its complete

Are you trying to sell the tractor too, or just the electrall?

You are not limited to posting it one place. Determine a price, post it several places, and see what kind of response you get.

Auctions, you take what you get and that usually isn't what you wanted. Sometimes its more but usually it's less.

Put it in the classifieds and start it high. You can always come down. Auctions are too much of a risk and the only one that really comes out well is the Auctioneer. I have seen some things on Mecumm go cheap and some high.

It is pretty cheap to protect it with a reserve. I think it is only $100.

Congrats! I understand the those are uber rare.

You have gotten alot of good advice; best of luck with the sale! Some of us will be envious of you, AND the new owner!

Farmall and IH collectors are the people who will be the most likely to buying it. I'd try advertising it in the monthly magazine or newsletter of a state wide or nation wide Farmall collectors club. Determining your asking price will be the tough part.

For me Craigs List has worked best as a place to "dispose of" things quickly rather than to get the best price.
