IH 350 utility, I installed a new engine driven hyd. pump. The tractor has 3 remotes, only the remote for the hitch cylinder is used. The engine is under load any time the hitch remote is not being used (oil must be deadheading). What should I being looking at? The book says look into the Regulator and safety valve. Where is it? Thanks!!!!!!!!

The regulator is between the rearmost valve and the hydraulic reservoir. Also be sure all the single / double action valve switches are not in between settings.

Cub's answer is correct. There is also a screen (small) on the pilot valve he refers to. make sure it is clean. The screen under the seat (The big cover must come off). is also a clean make new, or buy new (very pricy). The system is not a true open center style, and not closed center either. it is a pilot demand style, with the tiny valve and orifice making the system pressurize. Jim

Cub is correct and so is Janicholson. I would make 100% sure that the valves are not wore out and allowing fluid past and I would ask if the cyl is actually moving? I would assume that you have power steering and if so it is priority over the hydraulic valves. If the steering is leaking in the box it will for sure keep a load on the engine.
