You sure don't mess around. I got a couple of painting projects if you want to take them on. They're sure as heck a lot simpler than a 504.

I've used about all paints besides PPG (Dupont, Montana, Valspar restoration series and now Case IH(Valspar)). This is Summit Racing Epoxy primer with IH 2150 paint. On the sheetmetal there is Montana surfacer between the primer and paint. I had the sheetmetal sandblasted. The chassis I just powerwashed and degreased; a lot... Then I did some wire wheeling and wire brushing.

Will that epoxy primer stick as well to the old paint as bare metal? Just wondering, that seems a lot easier than sandblasting.

No, epoxy will not stick as well to old paint as it will to bare metal. If the old paint has primer under it and is in good condition you can put epoxy over it provided the old paint is well sanded. But not as good as on bare metal -- what I am saying is that a good job has no shortcuts. One tractor I painted several years ago is off color and really should be repainted. If I do that someday I will put epoxy over the old paint because and only because the old paint has epoxy under it.

In short: as long as the old paint isn't peeling off or in danger of peeling off or greasy/oily it will stick and seal just fine. I've used DuPont, summit and Montana epoxy primers they all work about equally as good but summit racing is about $100 to make 2 gallons and I think DuPont was $200. If you do buy from summit make sure you buy both the primer and the activator.
