carb sticking

I have had trouble with my carb sticking on my cub. It is brand spanking new. I think I went a little heavy on the thread sealer and got some in my needle valve seat. I have taken it apart several times and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I rap it (which worked well at first, once it got going it was fine) now I take it apart and the bowl is empty. I can't really clean the seat other that blow it out. I clean the needle as much as I can. Do I just need to replace it or do I have bigger problems. thanks in advance.

Does the needle valve have a rubberizied tip? If so, sometimes those will stick. I encountered this problem, and was able to scuff the tip just enough to keep it from sticking.
Another thought is it could be is that the float is hanging up on the side of the bowl. This has been known to be a problem as well.

There's no magic going on there. What you see is what you get.

All there is, is the seat, needle, and float.

When you hold the carb upright with the bowl removed, the float should drop and the needle should follow the float, allowing gas in.

I have not found a sure fire way to cure a sticking needle. All I've ever been able to do is keep fiddling with it until it worked.

The float definitely drops and the needle does not.
I'm going to try to scuff it and see if that works.
I don't have any way to clean that seat other than
compressed air.

What do you mean no way to clean?

Don't you have some Q-tips in the bathroom? Get a few of those and soak them in carb cleaner.

You're wasting your time with more "cleaning" anyway. If you can't see any gunk it's clean.

DO NOT "scuff" that needle. All it needs is a quick shot of carb cleaner from a spray can. If you scuff that needle, you WILL be buying a new one.

Rusty, why do you say not to scuff it? I realize your experience on the subject, I'm just curious why lightly scuffing the tip with emery cloth would damage a tip that is designed to conform to irregular surfaces. I have done this twice, and have not had a problem. Once again, I realize your experience and don't mean to argue with you, just wanting to "pick your brain" so to speak.

That needle is manufactured to exact specifications. "Scuffing" it will alter those specs and destroys the precision.

A can of aerosol carb cleaner will easily cure the sticking problem without destroying the precision and function.
