Need more hyd pressure on 1486. Can I get 3000 lbs?

I bought a 8 row no till planter with splitters but I can not hardley pick it up. Will pick it up when cold but when the oil gets hot nothing. I checked the pressure hot and it was 2100 lbs. Does anyone know a way to get more pressure on the 86 series tractors. It is a 1980 model. Is there a way to get 3000 lbs out of this tractor? I have a bigger tractor that it will work on but I need it for tillage equipment that the 1486 won't handle.

mechanicfred has it nailed get a bigger cylinder. Only 1 inch larger piston diameter will be a lot more power. For instance if you go from 2 inch to 3 inch you will have twice the power. If you go from 4 to 5 you will get about 50% more power. If you give me your current cylinder piston diameter I can tell you how much more power you will get with a 1 inch larger piston. It will be less of an increase as the size gets bigger. I'm not a hydraulics expert but have done considerable maintenance work on it.

And if it is like a lot of newer equipment that comes with its own cylinders instead of the standard ASAE 8 inch stroke cyl????????????????????????

You can get a 2500 PSI relief valve.

IIRC there is one IH application that used a 2700 PSI relief that would fit your 1486. Might have been a Doncaster built utility of some sort.

The 1486 came with a 2500 psi relief valve. First thing I would do is put in a known good relief valve as they will really fool you. Flow rating is the real answer to see if you are getting what the tractor is capable of . Then if you are you go for different larger cylinders. If not you repair tractor.

If you have close to the spec 2500 cold and 2100 hot, you either need a new relief valve, or your old one rebuilt if that's possible. You shouldn't lose that much hot with a good rv.

If it folds it has valves in it that keep all the cylinders in time as well. Had one go bad last year in a 16 row 1770 JD. Planter main frame and wings did all kinds of crazy things.
