'41 farmall A lift all hydraulics

My neighbor has a 1941 farmall A...He wants to know if the liftall system from a Super A can be fitted to an A model? I know that he will have to get a Super A gas tank or a super C. But will everything else be compatible?

Yes, it can be done, but you would need a good, complete donor to get all the parts & pieces.

Torque tube, engine block, hydraulic pump, touch control unit, fenders, all kinds of stuff.

It would be a whole lot less work, and probably cheaper to just buy a nice Super A and sell the A.

Aren't the torque tube and engine the same? A 113 motor. I can see no difference other than how the gas tank mounts// on the A, it mounts to the tube// on the superA, does it not mount to the front of the hydraulic pump, and the electric box mounted on the steering base? There is no problem getting all the parts from the old SuperA. Just wondering if the magneto setup on the A would be a problem?

No, they are not the same. What you refer to as the "hydraulic pump" is most likely the touch control unit, not the pump. And it will not mount on an "A" torque tube. The hyd pump in low on the right-hand side of the engine block, below the distributor/magneto. An "A" block does not have the place to mount the hyd pump in the casting, unless it was a later replacement block.

The magneto, however would easily interchange between the two

the SA gas tank is not the same as the SC as the SC mounts different than the SA. You need the SA block and bell housing so you can mount the pump and rockshaft assy. SC had waterpumps and a taller radiator then the gas tank had different mounts raising it higher.I have a B that someone mounted all the stuff from a C made a new batt box and selded the B steering post on top so the controls for the hy system would mount. Cut the post so the height of the steering wheel would be like the B. They used a steering shaft from an A cutting it off so the u-joint clears the hy pump. Very neat job they then mounted a front mounted disc plow from a SA making the bracket so it would bolt to the B chassis.

Thanks Dave, I was not sure about the fitting of a SA hyd. system to a model A. But, I can see it would be to much to fool with! Thanks again, Jim
