560 glow plugs

When I start my 560 I have to hold the glow plug button for about 4 minutes and after holding it that long the tractor still starts hard. Is there a way to test my glow plugs to see if there working correctly?

Pull all the wires off of the glow plugs and then put one on at a time and press the glow plug switch and if the indicator needle moves it is good. 30 seconds of glow plug heat in summer and it should start right up.

OK thanks for the help I will try that. My meter needle does not move even after 5 minutes. I checked all the connections and there all good.

Go down to your local parts house and get six Autolite brand glow plugs for a 7.3L ford diesel. Run a tap on them to match the threads in the 560 head and install. You will need different connectors on your wiring harness. The tractor will start in 15 seconds on a warm day, 30-45 seconds at around zero.

I found out on my 460 I was glow plugging to long causing soot in the manifold. Another reason for hard starting is low compression. Glow plug are available from CNH

(quoted from post at 17:41:31 05/21/13) sounds normal for a 560

People convince themselves "that's the way it is" because they think it's too hard to fix, and work themselves into a state of denial.
