super h loose wheel

I am working on a farmall super h the rim is loose on the wheel all the clamps are in place and bolts are tight but it still will move a little and make a poping noise does anyone have a fix for this? thanks in advance lee

Jack it up and move the wheel to see where it is loose. It can only be the wheel clamps or axle clamps that would be loose. maybe they are rusted and you think they are tight.

It is loose in the clamps with it jacked up you can see it slide each way as you turn the wheel moves about 1/8 of inch each way but clamp bolts are tight

See if there is space under the clamp for it to tighten more. If there is I would suggest you remove the bolt. wire brush the threads, and put anti seize compound on them and reinstall. Many tight bolts are just stuck. Most IH wheel and rim combinations have good clamping capability at the rim. Jim

Try taking a rim clamp off and see if there is a way you could put it back on that would let it get tighter. There are four possible ways each clamp can go on the hub and some are tighter than others.

How long have you owned the tractor? Has it done it since the day you bought it/ I think the PO installed the clamps improperly. Find another H in the area and take some photos of how the clamps are on there. Or maybe Zach can post the proper install.

I had that same issue on my Super M, turns out even though I had torqued the old nuts and bolts down they were loose due to deformation of the bolts over time. Put on new nuts bolts and a split washer and that should fix it.

Are all the clamps on one side of the wheel turned so the "face" is flat against the wheel, and all of the clamps on the other side of the wheel turned so the "fingers" are touching the wheel?

If so a new set of hardware should fix the problem.
